The Alacrity Culture and Technology Center

Here is where great ideas turn into reality and where curious minds learn how to become scientists and engineers. Our lab is in the Center of Bucharest, Romania.

The first Open Lab in Romania

Have you ever had a great idea and the knowledge to make it work but nowhere to actually do it and nobody to help you with it? If not, lucky you... But we, the team behind Alacrity Education, faced that problem ourselves and we decided we are the ones to change that. Our center is the first Open Lab in Romania for that specific reason: if you're a great mind with an impactful idea, Alacrity is the place for you.

Classroom & IT infrastructure

Good ideas need to clash before they stand. Our classroom is where this happens. This is also where we host courses and events.

The Community You Need

Because equipment alone can be useless. Nobody was born an expert but luckily some people devoted their lives to becoming experts themselves. We have an entire team of them, ready to teach and help with anything, from designing PCBs to reviewing your chemistry paper, to teaching you mathematics or rendering beautiful scenes in Blender. Our community, united under the common belief that science should be for everyone and that it should be made to make people's lives better, has a proven track record of open-sourced software, educational events and much more.

Ideas brought to life

3D render of the SPINSPINSPIN round stacked motor controller boards with three capacitors on top

SPINSPINSPIN

A no-compromise ESC (electronic speed controller) is the circuit that drives and precisely controls a motor's speed. It'll be used in an upcoming Open Source SpinCoater Alacrity plans to build.

AirBox V2

V2 is the current platform. It comes in two configurations: an indoor unit tracking CO₂, and an outdoor station that adds fine particulate matter (PM2.5/10), VOCs, and NOx gases.

Alacrity AirBox V2 Assembled

AirBox V1

V1 was the original design to come out of the first AirBox course. That run produced 5 working stations, and the team deliberately broke all 5 in different ways on purpose, to find every failure point before refining the design.

Alacrity AirBox Framework

The hard problem wasn't inventing an air-quality sensor (that's old news); it was making one sustainable at scale, and building an entire teachable course around every step of making it.

Alacrity AirBox Bootcamp

AirBox is our STEAM flagship course. Students build a small, solar-powered environmental monitoring station that measures air quality and reports it live to a public map.

A Friendly Home to the Open-Source

200+ students taught - Taught directly by us, in bootcamps and 1-on-1 trainings. Every student gets to build something real and functional.

1st open-source lab in Romania - The Alacrity Center for Culture & Technology is open-access. If you have a socially impactful tech idea, come build it here. Our courses, designs and data serve the public. We put the power over the product in public hands.

All that happens at the Lab

From the second you step in, to the moment you find something to do - which is, of course, not something that takes long - you will realize that the Laboratory is a place of science, innovation, interaction and inspiration.

You might be wondering what the printers are currently making, since they're almost always doing something. You might even figure that the group of students actively debugging sensors at 11pm are a daily occurence. That's what some would call rocket science, impossible to achieve or otherwise "too complicated" - but it is actually what we call a regular Tuesday.
